Carle Place Students Are Making a Difference in their Communities

March 9, 2015 By Team Up 4 Community

Over the past few months, Carle Place students and student athletes have been active in many community service projects that are making a difference in their communities.

From Jump Roping to Raise Money for the American Heart Association, to “Battling the Classes” for Pediatric Cancer Research through the “SuperTy Foundation,” and Taking the plunge for Make-A-Wish, Carle Place students are committed to making an impact in the lives of others.

“The National Junior Honor Society has been fundraising for the Make-A-Wish foundation all year. Their efforts included a turkey gram sale and bake sales, and most recently the Long Beach Polar Bear Plunge. Twenty-five students and chaperones splashed into the cold water to raise $1,200 for the cause.

CPHS held its 8th annual Battle of the Classes, Battling for a Cause and raised more than $25,000 for the “SuperTy Foundation.” Cindy Louis Campbell is the founder of the organization and created it in memory of her son Tyler Louis Campbell. The organization aims to find pediatric cancer treatments that work without robbing

children of their childhood. The life of “SuperTy” was honored and celebrated at the event, while students competed in tug o’war, relay races, basketball, ultimate frisbee, and a skit competition, all in the name of fundraising. In the end, the senior class took home the win in fundraising and for the event. The Student Organization

and Key Club thank and congratulate Senior Class President and Key Club member, Augie Cavallaro who fundraised $5,000 for SuperTy. Augie has been the top fundraiser for Battle of the Classes, Battling for a Cause for the past 4 years and has fundraised over $18,000 in total.”
